1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Name and email address: Collected when you create an account via Clerk (Google OAuth or email OTP).
• Phone number: Optionally collected during the business claim process to verify ownership.
• Business information: Name, address, phone number, website, and service area details provided when claiming or updating a listing.

Information collected automatically

• Clerk user ID: A unique identifier assigned by Clerk when you create an account.
• Stripe customer ID: A unique identifier assigned by Stripe when you subscribe to a paid plan.
• IP address: Collected in server logs for security and abuse prevention purposes.
• Browser and device information: Collected automatically through standard server logs and session cookies.

Payment information

We use Stripe for payment processing. We never see, store, or have access to your full credit card number or CVV. All payment card data is transmitted directly to Stripe and handled in compliance with PCI-DSS standards. We store only your Stripe customer ID to associate your account with your subscription.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve the Service:

• Creating and managing your user account
• Processing and managing subscription payments
• Verifying business ownership during the claim process
• Sending transactional emails (account confirmations, payment receipts, claim status updates)
• Maintaining the security and integrity of the Service
• Preventing fraud and abuse
• Complying with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising or share it with advertising networks.

3. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party service providers only as necessary to operate the Service:

• Clerk(authentication): Processes your email address and manages your account credentials. Clerk's privacy policy is available at clerk.com/privacy.
• Stripe(payments): Processes payment information for subscriptions. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
• Google Places API (business data): Used by our data pipeline to collect publicly available business information for directory listings. We do not share your personal data with Google Places API.

We do not transfer your personal data to any other third parties except as required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

4. Cookies

We use cookies to operate core features of the Service, including authentication. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. For details on the specific cookies we set, see our Cookie Policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements (such as records needed for tax compliance).

Server logs containing IP addresses are retained for up to 90 days and then deleted automatically.

6. Your Rights (VCDPA)

Under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), Virginia residents have the following rights with respect to their personal data:

• The right to confirm whether we process your personal data and to access that data
• The right to correct inaccuracies in your personal data
• The right to delete your personal data
• The right to obtain a copy of your personal data in a portable, machine-readable format
• The right to opt out of the sale of personal data (we do not sell personal data)
• The right to opt out of targeted advertising (we do not engage in targeted advertising)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@dumpsters.direct. We will respond within 45 days as required by the VCDPA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

7. Children's Privacy

This Service is not directed at individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us at contact@dumpsters.direct and we will promptly delete that information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or through a prominent notice in the Service. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect when changes were made. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
